I used to think GMOs were a scientific achievement, a brilliant way to increase the nutritional value of particular fruits and vegetables. I actually gave a persuasive presentation for my speech class last year about genetically engineered foods and products, I was arguing for GMOs. It’s incredible how much you can learn in just a year. The truth behind the mass-producing corn farms was uncovered as I read a section from The Omnivore’s Dilemma. What used to be a healthy, privately-owned corn farm was taken over by corporations of a higher power and more money. With the rising agricultural productivity, researchers began to create ways to make the crops even “healthier” when in reality, were more harmful than beneficial.
I found this article, the contents are shocking: http://www.naturalnews.com/038401_kidney_damage_GMO_scientific_study.html
Our bodies were built to ingest fresh, unprocessed foods; we don’t have the appropriate enzymes to process some of these genetically modified foods. The most terrifying part is that these GMOs are rarely ever labeled as such. Sure, it’s not a matter of life or death between GMOs and organic foods, but I would much rather eat something I know is good for me rather than guessing and paying for it later in life. Now, I can make the intelligent choice to eat organically and rid myself of any worry I had before reading these articles.
